Nigella - a Blue Orpington Hen

Posted by Picasa

Think this is just a pic of a hen ?  NO  - wrong !  This is Miss Primadonna, alias Queen of the Deck -  photo of our favorite hen, Nigella, a Blue Orpington, almost a mass of feathers and lucky to catch her still as she hardly stops.  Too busy after grubs, worm, snails and anything edible.

Emma Peel - Secret Sleuth Strikes Again

Posted by Picasa

Cuter than cute and ten times as mischievous, Emma Peel will outwit the smartest human ! She is a White Leghorn who thinks faster and quicker than a human and sure runs faster than us too. - one very smart hen and you need to be smarter to get a great shot of any fast moving animal.

Pet shots are fun.  They are also very instructive and you will learn very fast.
Chickens don't mess about posing and looking cute for too long - you need a quick shutter action.
I have quite a few shots of their tail feathers where they have long gone :)  I also have click quite a few shots that show a blur and they have become bored, realized that no food is forthcoming and they've shaken their feathers at me and departed sharp quick.

Yummy, scrummy wool fleece

Posted by Picasa

Spotted these bits of fleece poking out of  the wool basket today :)  apparently they are called "rolags" and are bits of fleece all prepared ready for spinning .... well, great, but to me they are fab photographic material :)  Don't you think the colors look amazing, each strand of the fleece seems to stand out individually so  I'm pretty pleased with the whole effect.

Poor wee dead shrivelled thing ........

See what I found in the fridge ?  Don't you reckon it looks like some poor dead animal ?
Well, poor dead something anyway .....
I felt quite sad when I hauled it out of the fridge - was ready to chuck it when it suddenly hit me that it'd make a good photo - and that was after I whined about wasting that ginger root too ....

Here's another one - this one's almost Fudge-Like - almost !

Now, this one I reckon surpasses even the first one - you almost feel like diving into it its so tactile - yep, its that dyepot again !   I can almost taste this but I wouldn't want to - its too metallic.  Wonder when she will have another crack at dyeing some more fleece ? I'm never going to complain again at stuff bubbling away that isn't edible !

The Dyepot !

Posted by Picasa
Ain't this luscious ?  This is the remains of a dyepot from wool dyeing left in the corner to cool down - well, you didn't think I could miss a shot like this did you ?  See how it's just oxidized nicely for my photo so it looks almost so you could touch the texture of the crystals sitting on the top and check out the edges - aren't they great.  I'm still amazed at this digital stuff - why did I have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age ?
