Digital Photography Simplified

I couldn't bring myself to get a copy of Digital Photography for Dummies.Well, not until I could salt it away and take a peek by myself anyway - it'd be like admitting I didn't know what I was doing ! I mean I know I don't (quite) but I don't really want to advertise the fact :)

Digital Photography Simplified  shows you in simple language and with clear diagrams and images just how to go about things and seems easier to understand than my camera manual.  Maybe it is the color photographs, or maybe it is the clear text explanations but if you want to make a start on mastering digital photography and making all your shots fantastic be sure to give it a whirl and find out how easy it is for anyone, from a complete novice to someone who has some experience to take even better photos.

Rockface On the Rocks

Posted by Picasa
I was wrapped to find this rock "face"  - can you see it too ?
I could hardly wait to see if it would come like the image I had in my head and when I loaded it into my computer it did ! I ended up taking quite a few shots of various rocks that I would have previously just driven past.

I love this camera !
I use a Sony Cybershot and I love the way I can just "rock" on up to my subject and start clicking and if its too far away, no problem, I just hit the zoom and I am right in front of what I want to shoot. I am also really impressed with the anti-shake on this camera and find I don't need to cart around my tripod at all ! Totally cool camera.

'On the Rocks' another shot I took at the same place - I could have spent all day there !
With a digital camera its pretty amazing what you can find to photograph from what you see everyday in your daily travels around the planet - this was just a stack of ordinary rocks dumped in a heap that I didn't even notice before I started looking through the lens.

Collage of Garden Shots

I am amazed every time I take a shot at how simple things are now and taking photos is just pure simple enjoyment instead of fluffing around with light meters and F stops.

Now I can take out the camera, press the shutter and bingo one shot taken with no worries about whether I have the right settings .

What is even more cool is that I can edit my photos in a myriad of ways at the click of the mouse, the collage above, for example, was taken from just around the garden.
I love it !
Keep looking and I'll keep posting.

First Blogging Foot Prints - an insight to my digital photography secrets

This is my first blog post on digital photography !

This photo is a shot of a tropical plant that I edited to look like an abstract painting and I am continually amazed at what you can do with digital and how you can edit the same photo to look like completely different shots.

The prices of the new digital cameras that have come way down since I bought my first one and its nothing short of magic every time I click after having started in the distant days of the old box brownie where you had to practically climb up a pole to get the shot angled right !

For me, taking photos is a relaxed state of creativity so I need to be in the right mode to do it.

Photography is a moment in time and you need to become one with the subject almost like a meditative state that you need to be in when you get that creative urge so I like to spend a bit of time soaking up the atmosphere before I haul out the camera.

Because digital photography is so visual there is no place to hide and some initial forays into the world of digital photography may leave you surprised at what pops out from behind your lens, especially when you are in the moment and everything is flowing.

There are loads and loads of digital photography books, courses and classes with all sorts of digital photography techniques and tips but ask yourself what you want to do with your photographs and what direction you would like to take. Questions like:
  • Are you the observer or are you the subconscious revealed ?
  • Is this photo just a great shot or is it a creative message from your inner self ?
  • Do you have a message for others or are you just taking interesting photographs
  • What is your ultimate aim ?
